Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, has been sentenced to six months in jail by the Federal High Court in Lagos with no option of fine. The court presided over by Justice Awogboro held that the ruling will discourage those who enjoy abusing and mutilating the Nigerian currency. The Judge, however, ordered that the jail term commences on March 24, 2024, the day of Bobrisky’s arrest.
One of Nigeria’s news portal, Punch reported that before the sentence, the judge asked about Bobrisky about his sex, and he quickly replied that he was a man. The socialite has been in the news lately following arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for money mutilation and laundering offences.
You recall that last week, Bobrisky was convicted after pleading guilty to four counts of abusing the Naira notes amounting to N490,000 by spraying. The crossdresser was arrested after a video of him surfaced online spraying money at the premiere of Ajakaju which was produced by actress and producer Eniola Ajao, last month at Film One Circle Mall in the upscale Lekki neighbourhood on March 24, 2024.
Punch Nigeria published a story on Friday, April 5, stating that the social media influencer informed the judge that he had no idea that tampering with the naira note or coin is an offence punishable by law. Bobrisky expressed his remorse to the court and pleaded for lesser punishment. He said he would use his platform to educate his supporters against money-spraying.
